The Linux Mint Team announced the release of Linux Mint 10 Gnome. Ubuntu based free and open source operating system, Linux Mint 10, is now officially available for download.
Linux Mint 10th version codenamed “Julia”, is based on Ubuntu 10.10 “Maverick Meerkat”, which was released last October 10, 10:10 GMT. Linux Mint is one of the most popular Linux Distribution out there. The popularity and the demand has so grown that it apparently down their server on the release date. Now connecting to the main LinuxMint.com web page takes you directly to the download mirror list.
Julia offers more enhancements compared to old versions. Linux Mint, alike Ubuntu, believes in simplicity and friendly usability. Linux Mint 10 includes 2.6.35 Linux Kernel, GNOME 2.32 and Xorg 7.5 as the component updates. There’s a new Welcome Screen that enable users to install multimedia codecs and even upgrade to the DVD edition. An improved Menu features support for GTK bookmarks and themes as well. In addition, there’s a better search capability built up to the menu; search is integrated for web search and also for dictionary word look ups.
The updated Software Manager makes packages easier to browse. Software categorization is much clear with distinct application icons making them easier to recognize. Also the Update Manager now allows you to choose only your interested packages to be updated from the repository source. So you have full freedom over your package updates.
Linux Mint 10 adds up a number of artist-created backgrounds, including well twisted theme, to its new look and feel.
Downloads are available for both x86 and x64 systems via Http and Torrents at LinuxMint.com
