Rumor of Facebook shutting down goes viral

The hoax seems to have come from a website named “Weekly world news” and is spreading on Facebook, Twitter and different blogs. Keywords like “Facebook shutting down” has been trending on twitter, Google trends and other sites. The news certainly is false.

The site claims that Zuckerberg has announced the shutting of Facebook on March 2011 as managing it has become too stressful. It writes “FACEBOOK WILL END ON MARCH 15th!”. Further it claims him saying “I don’t care about the money. I just want my old life back Without Facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends. That’s always a good thing”.

The site has been spreading false rumors in the past. It had posted news like “MEGAN FOX IS A MAN”, “MICHAEL JACKSON FAKED HIS OWN DEATH?” Its another attempt to get more hits and attention.

Its surprising to see that many people has believed on the news and have shared it on Facebook, twitter and other sites. Yahoo answers is full of questions like “Is Facebook shutting down?”
