This week, TED Global brings us Rezero. Rezero is actually a dancing ballbot, a robot that can balance and drive on a single sphere. Péter Fankhauser, Roboticist at the Swiss federal institute of technology in Zurich demonstrates the ballbot, moving freely and even dancing with music on the TED stage.
Rezero is the first ballbot prototype which is able to move fast. It is designed and built by a team of incredibly skilled engineering students. Rezero has a sole contact point on ground, a sphere (ball) for locomotion and the gyro systems makes it move dynamically and stand gracefully in front of the people. Different sensors are kept so as to perform various tasks, such as to keep certain distances from a person, orbiting a person and even dancing beautifully.

Péter Frankhauser talks on Rezero’s many beneficial use in future. Such robots can be very useful for transportation; as a virtual assistants in hospitals and museums. There are so many possibilities.
